Our mission at Intrinio is to power a generation of applications that will fundamentally change the way our broken financial system works. Intrinio data feeds form the basis of large enterprise business reporting applications, Fintech web-apps, mobile apps and even blogs. It’s rewarding to see our product come to life at the hands of today’s most innovative developers. They are building powerful things.
We’re lucky to be in a business where we grow together with our customers, and we’re proud to show off their hard work. Each blog in this series will feature a developer or a startup that has leveraged our financial data feeds to build something incredible.
These are their stories.
Adnan Awaheed may be a new fintech entrepreneur, but he is no financial novice. In fact, he worked at Bloomberg for over 17 years, gaining experience in several departments. His trajectory took him through solution design, advanced sales, project management, development and more. He also spent a good deal of time building data centers for shipping platforms to track commodities movements.
As a veteran and long time employee of a large financial institution, you wouldn’t expect to see Adnan leave to build his own application. Luckily, that’s exactly what he did. Leveraging the knowledge he developed through his experiences at Bloomberg, Adnan set out on a fintech journey. He built a fast, easy, intelligent and affordable financial analytics platform called ZoomMarkets.
“We are embedding advanced visualization tools with high end user interactivity, turning data into insights – and this is just the beginning…”

What Was Your Inspiration for ZoomMarkets?
After spending years at within a system built upon archaic code bases and outdated technology, Adnan wanted to help affect change. His goal was to provide institutional level high-end analytics to financial markets. Unlike many current financial resources, he keeps the professional platform affordable.
ZoomMarkets’ main focus is revolutionizing the way investors look at data. Adnan places specific emphasis on re-representing financial markets information with cutting-edge visualization tools.
Surf the ZoomMarkets platform to see how powerful and comprehensive the visualization tools are.
What Was A Challenge You Faced in the Development of Your Platform?
One of the greatest challenges Adnan faced in his development was distributing non-normalized data. Boy, do we hear him on this one. There are hundreds of thousands of securities listed in the world. There are even more types of data sets relevant to those securities.
This can make it difficult for developers to access information for a specific security across data sets. There are active and inactive securities, de-listed securities, failed companies, new companies, holding companies, securities within companies, etc. On top of that there are competing identification systems (like Nasdaq Tickers, SEDOL, OpenFIGI, ISIN, RIC Codes, CUSIP, etc…).
Aside from the identification issue, financial information is often not normalized across data sets. We fix a few of these headaches at Intrinio. We’ve built a standardized Security Master identification system. This is a real-time list of all active and de-listed securities. It’s also compatible with dozens of identification systems. The Security Master makes it easy to search and retrieve data points across data sets. You can browse these data sets on our Data Marketplace.
Even with some of these problems solved, building advanced visualization tools is no walk in the park. Adnan faced the challenge of visually representing advanced analytical calculations. But with great challenge comes great reward, and the fruits of Adnan’s challenges are starting to bloom.
So What’s Next for Adnan?
As Adnan begins to scale his platform and grow his team, he’s starting to expand upon the ZoomMarkets functionality. Advanced company analysis and vessel tracking are high on his list. Leveraging what he learned at Bloomberg, he wants to build more functionality for commodities. The main idea is tracking trade flows and other movements in an instant. We can’t wait to see what he builds next!
