Sector & Industry API – [Instant Access via SIC Code]

Accessing Intrinio data for individual US equities is affordable, easy, and extremely valuable when analyzing investments. What can be even more powerful is accessing that data on an industry-wide or sector-wide level. We developed a Sector & Industry API so investors and developers can instantly access data to generate lucrative insights for different segments of the market. You can check out the data feed here.

The Sector & Industry API enables you to identify and track both historical and the most recent trends for sectors like Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, and Technology. If you’re a developer, this gives you unprecedented, flexible access to data for integration into your website, software, application, or even your blog. If you’re an investor, you can perform powerful analytics leveraging our Excel add-in.

Sector & Industry API – What is it?

We leveraged the power of the SIC code to aggregate our US Public Company data by sector and industry.

The Standard Industrial Classification SIC is a system for classifying industries by a four-digit code. Established in the United States in 1937, it is used by government agencies to classify industry areas.

-Wikipedia

According to Wikipedia, SIC codes are assigned based on common characteristics shared in the products, services, production, and delivery system of a business.

You can search for specific indices via our SIC Sector & Industry Indices Master.

It’s easy to access information on the fly, like the total revenues for the Oil & Gas Industry or the annual historical price to earnings ratios for the 25th percentile of the Mining Industry.

Making this data available via a REST Web API is incredibly powerful. It’s a flexible distribution system that enables our users to access the data in countless ways, leveraging any programming language, to build game-changing products.

The power of a Sector & Industry API is unprecedented, but we recognize that not everyone is a developer and that a lot of valuable financial analysis happens in Excel. That’s why we also built an Excel add-in around the API that enables our users to access the data in their spreadsheets.

You can also search for an individual security’s SIC code by querying the security via the US Fundamentals and Stock Prices feed via datapoint.

For instance, to find AAPL’s SIC code, you would enter the following call:

Which would return:
