Two Sigma and Kaggle also believe in the power of accessible data. So, when the opportunity came along to provide financial data for a Two Sigma and Kaggle global data science competition, it was clear that we should participate.
Over the coming months, quality data and powerful tools will collide with a brilliant community, creating the perfect storm for innovation. This unique competition unleashes the power of the crowds to build intelligent predictions via innovative algorithms, encouraging collaboration among some of the brightest minds in data science.
Two Sigma: Using News to Predict Stock Movements, is open to Kaggle's worldwide community of nearly 2 million data scientists and offers a total of $100,000 worth of prizes to the winners.
During the two-stage competition, participants will leverage the Kaggle platform to build a predictive algorithm, attempting to correlate movements in stock prices (financial data provided by Intrinio) with news analytics data (provided by Thomson Reuters).
The first stage, known as the submission period, runs from September 25, 2018 to January 8, 2019. At this time, entrants will train their models in Kaggle Kernels, and then select their two best algorithms to submit on January 8, 2019.
The second stage, known as the scoring period, runs from January 9, 2019 to July 15, 2019. At this time, entrants and spectators can sit back and watch the weekly leaderboard unfold.
After the scoring period ends, the winners are announced and receive the following prizes:
- 1st place: $25,000
- 2nd place: $20,000
- 3rd place: $15,000
- 4th through 7th place: $10,000 each
